Shriners Hospital for Children, Canada….
Hospital Seminar 2016
The following article was written by Mazol’s Assistant Rabban Paul Rose following his attendance at the Hospital Seminar 2016.
In my role this year as Mazol’s Assistant Rabban, I assume the responsibilities of the Temple’s Hospital Liaison Officer for 2016. One of the most rewarding events I attended in my new role was the Montreal Hospital Seminar in May. Lady Sharon and I joined our Illustrious Potentate and Lady Margaret, along with other Nobles and their Ladies from across Canada for this 2 day event. The Seminar was highlighted by the closing ceremonies for the ”Exceptional Care for Exceptional Kids Campaign.” The campaign resulted in the Hospital’s successfully achieving its fund raising goal of $130 million for the construction of our newest state of the art care facility. As members of Mazol we should all be proud of the fact that our Temple’s contribution towards the campaign totalled $775,000, surpassing our initial pledge by over $600,000!
Imperial Potentate Jerry Gantt and his predecessor, Dale Stauss, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, were the keynote speakers for our initial seminar session. Also, we were very excited to hear the words of Carter Brown, a 9 year old boy with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (or brittle bone disease) from Saskatchewan, who has personally raised over $30,000 through his online fundraising page.
Following opening remarks we were treated to two days of very informative presentations on variety of themes, by Senior Medical Staff and other Hospital Executives. Included in our schedule were also tours of the Hospital, and the opportunity to observe firsthand the tremendous research being undertaken.
The Seminar closed with the introduction of our next campaign, themed “Love to the Rescue”. In the coming months we will learn more about this new campaign for Shriners Hospital for Children, Canada.
